K&K Creations, LLC is a handmade furniture business that specializes in church pew benches and folding tables. The wood is supplied by local Amish and every part of the process is done by hand.
During my time at K&K, I designed images for their Etsy website and designed custom engravings for customers. Some of my other responsibilities included designing and building church pews which involved sanding, assembling, staining, packaging and shipping.
Working for K&K helped me grow as a person. Prior to working at K&K, I had never used power tools. Graduating from the difficult Liberal Arts program at Western Technical College as well as the very challenging Animation program at Madison College has made me realize that I can conquer anything that is put in my way. No matter how difficult the task, I stay calm and analyze the situation. Then I take detailed notes and tackle each task step by step systematically. Once I create a system, it just becomes hustle, grind and execution. After much repetition, I no longer need to follow my notes and even create ways to make the job more efficient which saves time and money.
I learned this systematic approach while working many jobs during college. One of my first jobs was stocking shelves at Wal-Mart. The two managers who trained me had worked there for a really long time. I am a good listener and pay close attention to detail so I took mental notes while watching them both work. They both had different strategies to do the same job and I decided which techniques were the most successful. I became so efficient at my job, I was able to stock five departments at the same speed as someone else who could only stock one department. My managers appreciated my hard work and dedication. I have been known to be quiet, keep my head down and get the job done.
